Planning:To start off I began by thinking what I wanted to do for "Artist".I thought of myself; how do I see myself as an individual artist. The more I thought about it I realized I am an artist that likes to represent happy moments but as well portray the power that sad moments have as well. This inspired me to want to create a representation of me , as seen my shirt is colored which is representing the bright moments and the background color is black on one side and a mixture of grey and white spots on the other representing the sad moments which are just as influential in our lives.

Title:Complementary
Medium:Acrylic on canvas Size:61 cm x 91cm Exhibition Text:For this project the goal was to create Artist in the City, City in the Artist, and artist. For my “artist in the City” I chose to imitate Edvard Munch’s painting titled “separation”.This painting has a more sorrowful feeling because of the man on the right, but I Chose to eliminate this aspect and concentrate on the woman and how powerful she looked and I made the colors on the background of the path appear more brightly. This painting also has an imitation of starry night by Vincent Van Gogh. For my “City in the Artist” painting it is essentially a image of downtown Milwaukee in which it resembles some aspects of the impressionist style most specifically Monet's painting Sunset on Venice. For my artist as an individual It is essentially an image of myself, the background color is black at one side of me, and grayish on the other side. The color of my shirt is colorful. Then next I proceeded to think brainstorm ideas for the city in the artist.I thought about how multicultural the city of Milwaukee is and how this has influenced me.Milwaukee as a multicultural city has allowed me to grow not only as an individual by being more open minded but as well having a direct effect on my art.
The last canvas "Artist in the City" had to represent how I saw myself contributing to my city. How myself as an artist am a contributor to my community. The girl is walking down a path and essentially she is adding a different color that is not already present in the path which shows how she is contributing by being herself and being proud of her culture. |

Artist inspiration:
For my artist in the city canvas it is essentially a scene from downtown in which I have incorporated the use of impressionist style painting.Impressionism was the first total artistic revolution since the renaissance. It is characterized by Immediate visual sensations through color and light. My intention was to assimilate in a way "Sunset in Venice" by Monet. For my city in the artist I essentially got inspired by two paintings in particular which was separation by Edvard Munch and starry night by Vincent Van Gogh, post impressionist. In my third painting which was essentially artist as an individual I decided to imitate in a way the movement of fauvism, this movement is characterized by seemingly wild brushes.
Meaning behind the piece:
My artist painting is supposed to how I as an artist like exploring and portraying the happy moments in life as well as the more tragic moments in life.My shirt is colored which is representing the bright moments and the background color is black on one side and a mixture of grey and white spots on the other representing the sad moments which are just as influential in our lives.Next my City in the artist represents how the multicultural city of Milwaukee has influenced me.It has allowed me not only to grow not only as an individual by being more open minded but as well having a direct effect on my art.Lastly my artist in the city it s representing how I am proud of my Mexican roots and express them in my community making the community more multicultural.
Reflection:
Overall this was an enjoyable process although I would say it was surprisingly difficult to come up with my ideas for each theme. My painting skills have also got to get better, but I am overall of what I was able to form and will take this as a learning experience for the bettering of my techniques. When it came to the part of thinking of myself as an artist it was surprisingly difficult which is kind of ironic, but I believe this is because in life one can really not define him/herself and categorize, one as an artist wants to keep on growing by facing new challenges everyday and experiencing new experiences, and I think this was a success in this project because we were able to question ourselves as artist and get closer to a hypothesis on who we really are in our own eyes as artists.
