Life dies
Acrylic on canvas 27.9cmX35.5cm 2016 Exhibition Text: For this art piece there are four roses which appear in an open space the middle roses are slightly shorter than the edge ones this is showing how the elder people in life are more wiser and can protect you from some situations by giving you some life advice. The painting had actual flower petals coming in a downward position from the roses showing how life passes in an instance. There are red dots so that the coming down of the petals would have more movement incorporated. |
Process:
First I began to brainstorm ideas of what I wanted to transmit to my audience through my piece. In other words what message do I want to get boldly across.I always think of life as a big picture so I decided I wanted to transmit the message that life goes by in the blink of an eye therefore the title of my piece"Life dies".I thought how do I portray this and since in my biology class we had been doing a unit on plants I decided I really wanted to do a piece with plants in it.Then I started simply drawing the roses from a picture of some roses that were given to me as a gift on my homecoming night and made me feel really special. These roses were full of life not only in an emotional sense because it made me feel alive because thats what we feel with love but because the vibrant red color in roses is beautiful and full of life. Then when I was done painting the roses and opted for a pastel pink for the background I decided to include the petals which I had kept saved and apply them with hot glue onto the painting in a matter that seemed they were falling from the lively roses ,this represented the death aspect which I mentioned before how life goes by fast so its important that we make the most of it.

Artist Inspiration:For this painting my inspiration was a local artist in Milwaukee Jamie Bilgo Bruchman. The reason I chose her as an artist inspiration is because she loves and incorporates plants in all her paintings and printmaking. The specific art piece in which I found inspiration was done by her in 2010 with the title of "Squirrel Flower"This piece has organic matter as well included in the piece which I found beautiful.
ACT Reflection:
1.) Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your artwork.I was able to view how looking at Jamie Bruchmans art my art was able to adopt a more movable sense and I opted for pastel and darker colors to be able to have that balance.
2) What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?I approached the developing of my piece regarding plants because that it what I wanted to incorporate I had discovered this local artist because while viewing the resources Mr.Chad had provided us in the Visual Arts website.I was able to find her website and view all the different artworks and read her artist statement giving me a better idea of what her intentions were with her art.
3.)What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration?I can say that when researching and finding this artist I discovered that Jamie Bruchman concentrates on one specific living form to reveal her ideas and that is the life of plants.
4.)What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? The central idea was the life of plants
5.)What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research? While reading my research I discovered that one can incorporate all forms of living aspects in art to provide a more abstract piece of work.
