Exhibition Text:For this project the goal was to elaborate a sacred vessel.Sacred refers to anything that is important to someone.Although when looking up the definition I found the first definition to be something connected with God or dedicated to a religious purpose and so deserving veneration.Since my religion is catholic I decided that I really see God as something sacred in my life and thus this led me to creating the chalice which holds the wine for the Holy Sacrifice and is a striking figure of the Sacred heart of Jesus.

Planning:First I really began to think of what I viewed in my life to be sacred, something that is of grand importance to me.When I hear the word Sacred I right away think of God because of my religion which is catholic.I am a strong believer and have faith that God does exist because when I look around at nature even the most simplistic flower I think of how this world is too amazing to have just occurred on its own.Recently in my biology course that I've taken we had been exploring evolution and the multiple theories on the origin of life.Such theories like for example the theory of spontaneous generation which proposes that life originated on repeatedly from non-living material by spontaneous generation by a process called autobiogenesis. In.In between these many theories is the theory of special creation which supports religious beliefs and claims life originated on this Earth due to supernatural powers like God.Although I love biology and some of the theories on the origin of life seemed were well supported I believe that God having created this grand universe. After having figured the sacred aspect I would base my vessel in I decided the best way possible to represent my religion and faith would be by creating a vessel that is present in the ceremony of the Holy mass.
The process of forming the chalice form was quite difficult for me I did tn quite get the perfect asymmetrical figure I was aiming to construct at the beginning.Clay has never been one of my specialties but I believe practice makes the master.

I then proceeded to smooth out the figure by adding more slip. This would allow the clay figure to adhere the slip and have a better much more smoother surface.

Artist Inspiration:For my sacred vessel I got inspired by Michelangelo's statue David.David is a masterpiece of renaissance sculpture that was created between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo. The reason I got inspired by this particular sculpture is because the statue was also base on a religious aspect. Thus David was a biblical hero, the account of the battle between David and Goliath is told in Book 1 Samuel.Saul and the Israelite are facing the Philistines near the Valley of Elah.Goliath, the champion of the Philistines, comes out between the lines and challenges the Israelites to send out a champion of their own to decide the outcome in single combat.David is the only one who takes the challenge he was armed with a rock, his sling, and his faith in God on contrast to Goliath who had his armor and shield.David managed to survive and defeated Goliath. As seen this piece was based on the faith towards God, in other broader words on a religious aspect which was found to be of grand importance.

Meaning behind the piece:
As I mentioned the sacred vessel I elaborated was a way to commemorate my religion which is Catholic.I wanted to make something that was sacred for me and thus created the chalice which holds the blood of God.
Reflection:
Overall I enjoyed having to elaborate something that was sacred for me as an individual, although clay was not my specialty it is a different form of art which is fun to explore with.I did have many challenges because I have never been the best at manipulating the clay to get the exact form and shape I desire. When coming up with the actual idea of what I would construct I did not have much difficulty because I right away made this connection of sacred to my religion and thus beliefs.
