Title:Aventure Palpitante
Medium:Block print Size:17.5x12.5 2015 Exhibition Text: The block print project was developed to represent any specific theme we wanted to express. The image that is transferred is the Eiffel tower. My artwork is titled "Aventure palpitante" which translates to thrilling adventure.I chose to represent an image of Paris because in my opinion simply being in a different city guarantees the emotion of thrill and adventures are prone to happen. in my opinion is guaranteed by traveling and visiting all the beautiful cities within the world. The artist that inspired my art piece was Kathe Kollwitz who was an artist of the German expressionism movement. |
Process:
1.)First start thinking of ideas as to what topic you want to base you're block print on.
2.)Begin sketching out ideas as to what you want to transmit through the block print.

I knew I wanted to create something that would represent Paris, I right away thought in the Eiffel tower because that is the monument that everyone recognizes the city by; but I decided it would be interesting to explore different monuments. Having thought deeply on which monument I wanted to emphasize on my print ;I decided on the Eiffel tower because its the most iconic monument of the city ,and I wanted it to be recognizable.

3.)After do the graphite transfer to the block
4.)Once the drawing is transmitted onto the block start carving out the areas you want to stand out.
5.)Then apply the ink on the block and pass(print) it onto a white sheet of paper. Repeating this process will be necessary because it is not easy to get a clear print.

Brainstorming ideas: I knew I wanted to show the image of a different and beautiful city. Which is why I chose Paris ,because I have always thought it would be interesting and a total different experience to visit this city .I started looking for images that would represent Paris. I specifically inclined on the idea of having a famous monument characteristic of the city. I thought right away in the Eiffel Tower because everyone recognizes Paris by it; however I wanted to explore different possibilities of monuments that could reflect the city of Paris so I investigated more on important monuments of Paris. The link provided is where I was able to find many images of important monuments in Paris which would help with the development of my art piece http://www.parisdigest.com/menus/monument.htm.

To the left are some of many trials I had to perform to be able to acquire a decent print, I was still not very satisfied with the finished trial but I could see that with every trial there was at least some sort of improvement.

Artist Inspiration :
The artist that inspired me in the development of my art piece was Kathe Kollwitz who was an artist of the German expressionism movement. The reason I chose her was because she was a printmaker whose art was very beautiful in the way she made her images stand out in the prints she created.

Meaning behind the art piece:
The image I transferred using my block was that of the Eiffel tower in Paris. Like mentioned this project we were able to pick any theme we wanted but were given as an idea the theme of obsession over something. We as humans tend to obsess over many things; those things can be materialistic or emotional. I really thought about humans in general not just me, through my brainstorming I noticed that all of us no matter what are always in the search of new experiences and feeling excitement about something, having something to look forward to. Thus the reason I chose to depict one of the many beautiful cities in our world Paris, reason being I believe that the emotion of thrill and excitement are one hundred percent guaranteed by traveling and visiting places we have never been to and it allows us to acquire new experiences which is what I want to accomplish in my life. The title of the artwork is" Aventure Palpitante" which means "Thrilling Adventure" in French.

Reflection:
Overall I feel this project was by far the most challenging I have yet accomplished. It was very difficult for me to pass on the print perfectly. I was still not completely satisfied with my finished piece but after having done many trials I believed it was the best out of all of them. Even though this project was a struggle for me I enjoyed learning a new form of art. I honestly can say I enjoy viewing and learning about different types of art.
